Re: [PAF] FTW makes broken GEDCOM -- how to import cleanly into PAF 5?
In the FTW EXPORT menu, choose to export to GED4.0 or PAF2.31, whichever
option it gives you. If Export to LDS is there, try that too.
If neither/none of those work, then create whatever GED comes closest to
working (i.e., creates the smallest listing file -g-), open it in a
text-editor (MS-DOSEdit, by preference) and manually CHANGE what has to be
changed. Then save the file, under a slightly different name, as plain
text (NOT!! RTF).
Since you're a programmer, you may find it challenging to write a program
to do this for you. But, it's probably not worth the effort for just one
import session.
But, 95% of the problems disappear when you pick a much lower GED target.
FTM at one point used the GED5.0 _proposed_ standard which had new tags
which were eliminated from the now-standard 5.5. So, when using FTM, you
have to aim before that 5.0 to 4.0.
