Re: [PAF] Need Help with Sources.
I'm gonna be the ant at the picnic, the fly in the ointment, etc etc again.
I used to work with a woman who was absolutely fanatical about
organization. She had two secretaries, one of whom did absolutely NOTHING
and had time to do nothing but keep the woman's files organized. The 2nd
secretary spent half her time retyping the key, which when I left the
organization was up to 12 single-spaced pages per day for a 4-drawer
cabinet that was half-empty.
A second point driven home recently by a personal, aborted, attempt to
organize -- one sheet of paper takes up 1mm of space. put that sheet of
paper into a labelled hanging file and it takes up 8mm of space. (or
whatever numbers your rulers give you). In addition, those hanging file
folds are expensive!
And, third, how effective, fast, efficient, easy any given system IS
depends on the number of people you're tracking and the amount of paper
each generates. The more people and/or the more paper, the less
efficient, fast, easy or effective. And, unfortunately, the more people,
the more time you spend organizing each time you get a new piece of paper.
Trust me on this -- the methods I use on my 600-person database simply do
not work as well on my 23,000+ person database. And if I have find the
cheat-sheet before I can look for a fact, I have spent any time saved.
Then again -- maybe I'm just one of those persons who want it NOW rather
than "right".
