Speaking of techie terms (g) here's something you don't want to try --

I had two WORD files on the same subject with names very close to one 
another; I discovered that for an unknown period of time, I'd been updating 
them interchangably. :(  Since I didn't feel like eyeballing two 87 pg 
docs looking for the differences on screen, and wasn't crazy about 
printing them both, I fell back on a DOS trick -- fc.

Picked the option to show beg and end of discrepancy only, and piped it to
a file. Reformatted the file to get rid of the multiple oneword/oneline
places, then printed it.  Got a 22 page DOS printout.  Spent two days
reconciling it.  A HUGE proportion of the discreps appear to things I
didn't know DOS could even see! (ie, when switching from italic to
regular, I sometimes hit the space bar first and sometimes the undo button
first). 

And now tonight I get to install the patch for WP9 and see if I can get 
into another doc and save it.

Are we having FUN yet?
