[PAF] Re: Entering Census Data

Hello friends!
The Census records are wonderful!  I have used them so very much!!!

This is what I do....
For the father or head of the family - I enter everything.
For spouse and children I enter about themself, their relationship to head of family and notice of siblings, etc.

The most wonderful new thing of PAF 4.04 is the "memorize this citation" button and "Use memorized citation" button!!!!!!!!

Example:
Source:
1870 Census - Redbank Twp, Clarion Co, Pennsylvania
U.S.Fed'l Gov't;   FHL film #552,825;  Mesa Family History Center;
Citation:
Dwelling #178 - Family #175, p.24   24 June 1870

Henry GRUBER - age 57, male, farmer, $17670 real estate value, $2000 personal value, born PA;  Wife - Catharine GRUBER, age 40;  Children- A. Jacob age 19, Peter J. age 16, Catharine M. age 13, Eliza M. age 8.

For Wife's Individiaul Screen and using same source and citation:
Catharine GRUBER - age 40, female, keeping house, born PA;  Husband - Henry GRUBER age 57;  Children- A. Jacob age 19, Peter J. age 16, Catharine M. age 13, Eliza M. age 8.

For each child and of course using same source and citation:
A. Jacob GRUBER - age 19, male, farm laborer, attending school, born PA;  Parents - Henry (age 57) and Catharine (age 40) GRUBER;  Siblings - Peter J. age 16, Catharine M. age 13, Eliza M. age 8.

Peter J. GRUBER - age 16, male, attending school, born PA;  Parents - Henry (age 57) and Catharine (age 40) GRUBER;  Siblings - A. Jacob age 19; Catharine M. age 13, Eliza M. age 8.

Catharine M.- age 13, female, attending school, born PA;  Parents - Henry (age 57) and Catharine (age 40) GRUBER;  Siblings - A. Jacob age 19, Peter J. age 16, Eliza M. age 8.

Eliza M. GRUBER - age 8, female, attending school, born PA;  Parents - Henry (age 57) and Catharine (age 40) GRUBER;  Siblings - A. Jacob age 19, Peter J. age 16, Catharine M. age 13.

Interesting that in the 1860 Census, the children are listed as Jacob, Peter, Catherine, Elizabeth (without middle initials) and they are the youngest 4 of 7 children listed.

SO - as I follow these families over every census I can locate them as a child AND as an adult, each individual has his own listing for EACH census they are on.  It's wonderful to see how names are listed when they use a nickname one time and a formal name another time, and sometimes the middle name even on another year.  I learn something NEW with each entry!

This may not be a stumper, but I've been scratching my head for several weeks now.  I'm a new PAF user and love it.  Only one question:  what's the best way to enter census data for a family?  Just put the entire family with the head?  Break it up and put each individual's entry with the individual?   Could sure use some suggestions from the pro's.
