[PAF] PAF and GENE
I am using GENE 4.2.1 ( www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/gene
<http://www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/gene> ) to produce some very nice
graphical descendents trees from GEDCOM files written from PAF2.3.1 for an
upcoming family reunion. The program does a very nice job, except that it
does not print the spouse in a marriage that does not contain a MARR record.
The explanation in the GENE user's guide is:
"Note that some genealogy programs have a subtle bug in the way they export
GEDCOM files, that can cause Gene some trouble when importing the files.
GEDCOM files contain information in individual and family records; the
family records typically contain marriage subrecords corresponding to the
information stored in a marriage card in Gene. However some programs can
only produce GEDCOM marriage subrecords when they know a date or place for
the marriage; other families are left without this information. Gene can not
automatically assume that every family is married, because one must also use
GEDCOM family records for children born out of wedlock."
The GEDCOM file below my signature illustrates the problem.
Do you know of any utilities that would solve the problem?
Also, are the databases for PAF 2.1 and PAF 2.3.1 for the Macintosh
identical? It would be convenient if I could pass PAF files back and forth
between two computers, one of which does not have enough memory to run PAF
2.3.1? PAF 2.3.1 doesn't appear to do a conversion when reading the PAF 2.1
file, but I am concened that I might loose something going back and forth.
