[PAF] Danish Surnames

If someone wants to refer me to a Danish Family History List, please
do.

To someone with Danish expertise. Patronymics in Denmark adds "sen"
to the end of the father's given name. So, Peter, the son of Lars
Svendsen, has the name Peter Larsen. In some cases that I have seen,
Anne, the daughter of Lars Svendsen, has the name Anne Larsen, and in
other cases the name Anne Larsdatter or Larsdotter.

What is the preferred Family History way to do this. From my way of
thinking, having all the children with the same surname form would
make things simpler. How WAS it done in Denmark? As I recall, the
assigning of patronymics in Denmark stopped somewhere around the mid
1800s. There are two issues: what was the correct and official usage
at the time, and what makes sense for organizing records today. When
Anne, the daughter of Lars went to school, got a job, got married,
etc. was her surname name given as Larsen or Larsdatter?

A related question. Which is correct: "dotter" or "datter".

Another related question: Frequently a name is added after the
patronymic surname. I'd appreciate some understanding of why these
names were added. Some examples include: DAASE, RAAD and HARUP.
I note that one child might have one of these names, i.e., Peder
Hansen Daase, but Peder's siblings have only the Hansen.

What is the proper and/or BEST way to enter such names. Is the
surname in the case of Peder Hansen Daase Hansen or Hansen Daase or
Daase? Would Peder be called "(Danish equivalent of Mr.) Hansen or
"Mr. Daase" or "Mr. Hansen Daase."

I'd appreciate some insight into this aspect of Danish research.
