Re: [PAF] State Boundary Changes
I published a genealogy last year that started in the 1700's in Maine. Maine
was part of Massachusetts until 1820, so all events before then actually took
place in Massachusetts. For these events I listed the state as it was then and
then noted that it was now Maine. For example: "Gideon Parkman came to Canaan,
Lincoln, Massachusetts (now Skowhegan, Somerset, Maine)..."
I also had a section in the Introduction that explained Place Names for the
reader. I wanted to make sure that the casual reader understood the town name,
county and state name changes.
