[PAF] PAF 2.2 ? or upgrade ?
Hi everyone. This is my first attempt at a post on this board.
Years ago, my father did lots of research on our family ancestry (before he
got dementia) and put all of the data on 5 1/4 disks using the PAF 2.2
program. I found all of this material and I am taking over the project now.
Luckily, I still have my old computer with both 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 drives, so I
was able to copy all of the program and data disks to 3 1/2 disks and install
the program on my new computer which has no 5 1/4 drive.
Everything seems to be working fine, although it's been a long time since I
have used DOS. Would it be better to figure out how to use this program and
continue working with the data in this way?...Or should I get the newest PAF
windows version and transfer all of the data into it?
Also, what is the best way to transfer the data from the disks to the new
hard drive so that if I do the upgrade that it is all moved into the new
program? Do I just put it into a PAF subdirectory called "data"?...Or should
I just keep the data on the 3 1/2 disks?
Thanks in advance for your help. :-)
Thomas Schneider
P.S. I'm sure glad that Dad kept paper printouts of the disk data also so
that I even knew what these disks were about so I didn't throw them away. Be
careful, think ahead! Print out the data, or make that book today. Share
the information before it is lost.
