Bro Halliday,

I am not sure if you want to send scanned attachments or not. But I
do have a scanner if you would like to use it. Perhaps I could even
learn from you. I only do the rudimentary things with it but it is a
pretty good flat bed scanner. And I can send attachments.

If you want a scanner of your own, check out the nearest Best Buy or
CompUSA store. I got my two older brothers interested in a low cost
scanner for 99.99. It's a Umax 610P 30 bit flatbed scanner. They have
these on sale quite frequently. Last time I seen it was on sale, plus
rebate of either 20.00 or 30.00, so it made it less than 60.00. If they
don't have it try a office/computer store like Staples, or OfficeMax.

A great little machine with a lot of good color. You really don't need a
high price one if you just want some simple things to do with it. You
might want to check the stores out.

I done some scanned pictures to put up on my web pages off the Umax.
Really quite good. and once you scanned them in you can save them as a
BMP GIF or JPG or other formatting pictures.

Tom

Subject: [PAF] Apple ][e to PC

I got a call today from a lady who *HAD* an Apple ][e and PAF. She
currently has a PC and PAF 3.0.

She wants to migrate her data from the Apple ][e format to PC. She
called SLC and says she was told to save the PAF data in (some format she
didn't name) and that it could then be read by a PC.

There were two problems, the first one being that she no longer owns the
machine or the PAF program on it and the second one being that she didn't
understand what they wanted her to do.

I'm with her on the 2nd. Whatever format they meant (and I assume it was
GEDCOM), a PC won't read an Apple ][e disc. Period. (Been there, tried
that, didn't want the T-shirt). I'm not even sure current MACs can read
it.

*I* had Problem #3: I thought SLC would do the conversion if you sent
them the disc? Why didn't they tell her that?

Anyone able to shed a glimmer here?

And -- while you're reading -- would one of you LDSers please tell me
when they revived the TIB requests? In our last shipment of supplies
from SLC there were two packages of TIB request forms (with another name
at the top) dated 1986. ????

Thanks!

Cheryl
