I didn't notice if anyone mentioned how to add a biological father to the
records when an adoptive father was already in the records. That is done by
highlighting the child and pressing A for Add and selecting Add Parents. The
display box will show the parents already in the record and you can select to
add the child to another family. This other family may be the biological
father and the mother already in the record or two entirely different people.
Just be sure the parent links are correct.
It is not unusual for a person to be sealed to more than one set of parents.
This frequently happens when, under the old procedues, a woman was sealed to
her first husband and all her children by any husband were sealed to her and
her first husband. Now, that deceased woman may be sealed to all her deceased
husbands, and the children can be sealed to their biological father. As was
previously stated, this means that when the ordinance has been preformed here,
the choice can be made by those who are involved, rather than their
descendants. Notice that one of the fields in PAF's Individual Record
screen is "F2 = See all Sealing-to-Parents."

I assume this was an attempt to remove yourself from a unwanted
advertiser's mail that this list seems to get every now and then. I get
about 10+ spam mail messages a week to this list that get rejected and
sent to me for approval or deletion but occasionally some slip through the
cracks as we have seen. I have to admire how many of the advertisements
get through though. :)
Anyway please be assured that these advertisers do not YOUR e-mail
addresses, only the address for this list which is listed on USENET
newsgroups, WWW pages and who knows where else. Once an address gets out
there it is hard to get off someones list.
When this list receives an advertisement that passed through the filter
just delete it and don't bother replying to it - that is my job. If you
send these advertisers an email, they may just use your address to sell to
other advertisers.
There are many other reasons and other things I could tell you but the
point of all this is just delete the spam (advertisements) and be assured
I am doing all I can to prevent this unwanted mail from invading your
mailbox from this list.

No I did not mean to imply that a child can be sealed to more than one

I meant that a couple can be married by common law then civilly then
sealed in the temple OR even divorced and re-married any number of
times. A bit confusing but each marriage should be listed and the
children should be listed after each marriage.
OK-- a couple, through common law, is married by referring to each other
as husband and wife several times (which fits the law) and then has 3
children. They separate and marry other people whom they both divorce.
They then re-marry civilly and later are sealed in the temple.
Your records should show 3 marriages for each person in the couple with
the first marriage showing 'Common Law' and the 3 children. The second
marriage would be the other spouses with the divorce. Then the third
marriage, with the same couple, showing a marriage date and place and
the 3 children ( which are clearly theirs) 'linked' to the couple-- and
the later temple sealing information added to the marriage.
A temple sealing after a civil marriage (either by church or state) is
not a re-marriage-- it is an addition to the marriage.
Children cannot be sealed to more than one set of parents but can be
sealed only to a 'husband' and his 'wife' or to adopted parents or
grandparents or aunt and uncle. Never just to the mother since the
sealing is a 'priesthood link' which requires a priesthood holder.
I'm not sure if that was explained very well.

Okay--I did some research on one of my ancestors and as it turned out
he was the second husband to my great... grandmother. All of the
children are biologically his, but someone years ago sealed her and
the children to her first husband, who the children didn't know in
life nor were they biologically related to him.
There is nothing I can do about that, is there? I can seal her to my
ancestor, since he is the second husband, but the kids can't be
sealed to them, can they?
I'm just trying to get all this sealing stuff straight in my
head--just in case somebody asks me something about it.

OK-- In my original and second post regarding this-- I was only
referring to living individuals. The 'rule-of-thumb' with the deceased,
is to provide the ordinances and let them make a decision if whether to
accept it or not. As to the sealings, the most logical is usually
correct--however, if in doubt, do it. DO NOT just duplicate!!!
Provide all sealings to couples and children to biological and adoptive
parents and those that brought the person up to adulthood. Again, logic
and a bit of prayer is the answer.

In the Temple Ready section of Family Search ver 2.25 it says on page 3:
"After TempleReady has checked your ancestors' names, a message will be
displayed
instructing you to put the disk labeled "Disk to take to the Temple" into the
disk drive...."
These names are all checked against the IGI and you will have to insert one or
more CD disks in the CD-rom Drive as requested by the display instructions.
This message is displayed on the screen just prior to the screen telling
you to
set up your printer.
I would suggest you check out this documentation on your next visit to the
Family
History Center where you are creating your submission.
Normal procedures is to use GIE.EXE for either PAF2.31 or PAF3.0 and create
a disk
containing a gedcom of the names you desire to submit. If you do not
create such
a disk, then you will have to individually type in the names at the FHC
when you access
the TempleReady program in Family Search and use a blank formatted disk to
save the file
output of TempleReady to send to Salt Lake. The program is MENU Driven and
if very easy
to follow.
I tried this out using both methods and had no difficulty in printing to
disk without
a hard copy output from the printer.
On page 4 of the above reference:
"The TempleReady Report prints automatically when you save your information
on the
disk for the Temple. The report reviews the status of each name you
submitted and lists
any ordinances that can be performed. It also explains why certain
ordinances, if any,
cannot be performed at this time."
With the number of individuals you have it will take a lot of paper to
print this report.
I estimate about 10 names per page. If you DO NOT WANT the printed report,
you can simply
turn your printer OFF. This will result in a RED ERROR message on the
display, but will
not effect the writing to disk. The error message can be eliminated with
the <ESC> key.
If you want the printed report, you can use, as suggested by Joan Lowrey,
PRN2FILE filename.
This will bypass the printer and output to a file with a name you chose.
This report is a
coded report and NOT a pure ASCII file. It cannot be viewed with the
'TYPE' command. It
is formatted for the printer and can only be viewed by copying it to the
printer. There may
be other ways but I have not found them. Pure ASCII text files are not
effected in this
manner.
If someone out there knows how to view these files perhaps they can help
you with that.

Yes, you can seal them to the second husband if they weren't sealed
in life but after their death by proxy. The recipients of the
ordinances choose which sealing they accept.
My husband's family was all sealed to the mother and her first
husband and later they had the sealings done to their mother and
their biological father.
I actually called SLC, at the suggestion of the Temple workers in the
Family File, to find who I should seal a cousin to, her biological or
adoptive parents and they told me to seal her to both, that she would
make the decision as to which one she would accept.
