Should be pretty easy to fix. With the name highlighted on
the small pedigree, select the letter "d", then select
"Delete Individual". Once that's done, you can re-enter the
person correctly as a new entry.

Wish they were all that easy!

This message confuses a few people since the request for information was
sent to this list and you post information about subscribing to one of
the other lists which is fine for me but confusing to the person who
originally had the question.

To my knowledge there are now 4 PAF lists out there. This one, which is
the original, the two listed above and a new one that has just started.
I don't feel I or anyone is in competition with any other list lince all
serve the same purpose but I want to avoid any confusion. :)

I don't mind people joining the other lists at all so don't get me wrong
:)

Lovingly,

Subject: [PAF] Splitting trees in PAF

I had posed my problem a few weeks ago. To briefly recap, I had
discovered a bogus line in my data and wanted to get rid of it. I
posted my problem and a number of you gave me your ideas and
suggestions. My hearty thanks to all for your help. Here is what I
eventually did.

First, I pinpointed the bogus family member that I needed to
disconnect from the family that was valid. I successfully
disconnected them from the family. Then I did a focus list. I first
selected all family records data, and then I switched to Unselect. I
then unselected the bogus family member and all of his ancestors.
The selection hung itself up in Windows 95 and I had to reboot. So I
switched to DOS and did it. It took all night on the PC but when I
looked at it at 4am, it was done. I hurriedly saved the focus list
and shut the PC down. Later the next evening I got back on the
computer and made a GEDCOM out of the focus list. I saved my old PAF
data file just in case it didn't work right. So far I've been
checking the new data file I created out of the GEDCOM, and it looks
good. My data is several thousand records shorter, and I saved the
bogus data in a GEDCOM in case I may need it again sometime.

Thanks to all who helped me. I am pleased so far with my data file,
and I haven't finished checking it yet, but so far no problems that I
can see. Thanks again, I love this list!

I noticed that it was suggested that you delete the record. You don't have to
delete the record. You can remove the record of the individual from the
family, either a parent or spouse, change the gender and then link that record
again. This won't change the link to the parents of that individual. PAF
won't allow changes to gender of a parent or spouse. It will allow changes to
a child who is not married or who has a child.
If you have deleted the record, be sure that you make the links to the
parents of the deleted person as well as to the spouse.

Correction, Ed! There are six. I had one, but noone hardly signed up. I
guess this list was the most active. I've given up my list which was at :
PAFusers@uplinktech.net I owned the list. There was one other member on
it besides myself, so I went to your list. I have even advertised it on
my web page (since then changed to reflect to your mail list for mailing

I hope that web traffic has increased your mail list.

It never occurred to me that Rootsweb had any mail lists.

Sigh.

One list is GREAT! Two are tolerable, but SIX?!? And separate ones for
2.31 and 3.0?

I am probably the lone voice crying in the wilderness, but as I
complained back when they split Roots-L -- we're all going to end up in
our own little two-person newsgroup if this keeps up.

Deep Sigh. I think I'll have another slab of pineapple upside down cake,
topped with some of Breyer's Reeses Peanute butter cup ice cream, washed
down with a diet soda. (g)

Don't try so hard-- the records are yours and they should be input for
your understanding and no one way is right or wrong.

If you know the biological parents then simply put them in and if they
were not married, state that in the marriage information (in the place
field). If the conception happened in a common law state or country and
they had filled the requirements for being a husband and wife, then in
the date field put 'Common Law'.

It's really that simple-- Now if they were husband and wife by common
law and later married civilly or sealed in the Temple then each marriage
is handled separately.

If you need more help-- E-mail me back.

I infer from this something you most likely did NOT mean to imply; please
clarify and help me keep from breaking my ankle while jumping to conclusions.

This sounds as if you are saying one man can be sealed to TWO sets of
parents?

They can if they are deceased and weren't sealed in life. I hada
similarquestion come up with an ancestor of mine who had adopted her
brother's child upon the death of his wife. The child was the only
child of both women and I didn't know who to seal her to.

I called SL and was told to seal her to both, the decision of which
sealing to accept would be made by the child but the ordinances
had to be done here, of course.
