I probably should have stated that my problem with TempleReady missing
duplications was with locations. Prussen was allowed to be used in older
submissions, but I used Prussia because I was having problems getting
TempleReady to accept older names for parts of Germany. The duplication was
not found.
In another instance, a relative submitted over 100 names from Sweden. They
had been entered (using PAF 2.31) with Sweden in the fourth place level and
nothing in the third place level, with county and city in the second and third
place levels. So it came out like this city, county,,Sweden. I am not sure
that blank third level was the problem, but almost 100 names that had had the
work done in the 1940s were cleared by TempleReady.

You did not state what you are looking for. How much detail do you want? Names
of the people or just a count? What they did? What machines, equipment, or ?
they used?
Who they talked to? I could help you find something or maybe write a program
for you if you can give me some idea of what you are looking for.

Subject: [PAF] Temple submittions
Thanks for all that responded to my question, i am humbled by so many
caring people. I wil try to find the pr2file program and i am confidant
with all the input that you people gave me i can make it work.
And yes to all that questioned me about so many names , i am trying hard to
take out any duplicates.
This is the story behind these names............
Last summer my 73 year old mother from the Netherlands came to visit us
here in Canada, and as i have done genealogy of and on for almost 30 years
she brought up the point that she knows very little about her mothers line
(the Purnot's from South Limburg and east Belgium) As far as she knew it
was never researched ,so i promised to see what i could do.
One year ,two dozen films and about an estimated 2000 hours of film reading
and computer typing later the one Grandma and her 14 sibblings are a 11.000
member family.
This family is leaning heavy on my shoulders to get out of my computer and
into the temple, so i was planning to send them to the main office in SLC
and let them distribute as they see fit. This i am told is not longer
possible ,i am now told that i am to submit these names to the temple that
my stake is assigned to and they will contact SLC to send names to other
temples if "my" temple's reserve of names gets to large.
I have done IGI comparing ! Downloaded about a dozen of my main line
surnames from OI and addendum and compared them at home . Working with two
computers it went ok.
This far i have not found a single possible match except for what my mom
and myself have submitted in the past.
Now to do a more thorough and complete check i was thinking is there maybe
a computer program that will compare data in two data (or GedCom) files
kind of like the match and merge in PAF ,that will surely help the process.
Thanks again for all your good advice.
Thanks .........a bunch of tulips.............Peter!!!!
ps. To all private Emailers: I like to go tru the list with this tread , i
have learned so much from just "listening in" to others, discussing their
little brick walls, that i feel that other people will benefit from this
discussion.

I know this is a little off topic, but there are a lot of FHC Staffers
that read this list.
We are looking for commercial/shareware/freeware software that will
track patron attendance at FHC, and print out reports. If your FHC uses
such software, could you please let me know whom to get in contact with
for :
1. a description of the program, and the reports it will generate
2. where to obtain the software.

The internet address for the Perry program is:

The San Luis Obispo FHC has been using the film part of the program for
almost 3 years now, it's wonderful. Have not used the patron attendance
part, but it looks easy to use and will output different reports.
Hope this helps

Subject: [PAF] Story Brother Miller (fwd)
Dunno if you've already seen this?
QUOTE:
During the waning years of the depression in a small southeastern
Idaho community, I used to stop by Brother Miller's roadside stand for
farm-fresh produce as the season made it available. Food and money
were still extremely scarce and bartering was used, extensively.
One particular day Brother Miller was bagging some early potatoes for
me. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean,
hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my
potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a
pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas I couldn't
help overhearing the conversation between Brother Miller
and the ragged boy next to me.
"Hello Barry, how are you today ?"
"H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas -- sure
look good."
"They are good, Barry. How's your Ma ?"
"Fine. Gittin' stronger alla'time."
"Good. Anything I can help you with ?"
"No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas."
"Would you like to take some home ?"
"No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with."
"Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas ?"
"All I got's my prize aggie -- best taw around here."
"Is that right ? Let me see it."
"Here 'tis. She's a dandy."
"I can see that. Hmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go
for red. Do you have a red one like this at home ?"
"Not 'zackley -- but, almost."
"Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip
this way let me look at that red taw."
"Sure will. Thanks, Mr. Miller."
Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a
smile she said: "There are two other boys like him in our community --
all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain
with them for peas, apples, tomatoes or whatever. When they come back with
their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after
all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an
orange one, perhaps."
I left the stand, smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short
time later I moved to Utah but I never forgot the story of this man and
the boys -- and their bartering.
Several years went by each more rapid than the previous one. Just
recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and
while I was there learned that Brother Miller had died.
They were having his viewing that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go,
I agreed to accompany them.
Upon our arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives
of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could. Ahead of us
in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two
wore short haircuts, dark suits and white shirts obviously potential or
returned Mormon missionaries.
They approached Sister Miller, standing smiling and composed, by her
husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the
cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty
light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly
and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket.
Each left the mortuary, awkwardly, wiping his eyes.
Our turn came to meet Sister Miller. I told her who I was and
mentioned the story she had told me about the marbles. Eyes glistening
she took my hand and led me to the casket.
"This is an amazing coincidence," she said. "Those three young men,
that just left, were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they
appreciated the things Jim "traded" them. Now, at last, when Jim could
not change his mind about color or size...they came to pay their debt.
We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world," she confided,
"but, right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho."
With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased
husband. Resting underneath were three, magnificently shiny, red
marbles.

Subject: [PAF] A Word about TempleReady
It was suggested that I send this note from a Regional Family History
Meeting about TempleReady and it's limitations on searching for previous
work done. Many, including myself, thought that since the IGI (now
ordinance Index) was searched in the process that it wasn't necessary
to check the index first. As you can see below that isn't the case
and many ordinances already done are missed if they are out of the
TempleReady parameters.
Alice Harris
akh@molalla.net
A WORD ABOUT TEMPLE READY
Temple Ready will only check for duplication on a two-year date
variation (one year on each side of the date), and only on one
locality. If you submit an event as having occured in New York when
it actually occurred in Pennsylvania, TempleReady will clear the
ordinance, even though the ordinances have been previously performed
and would have been matched had you listed the locality as Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth Nichols teaches us "It is very important that people look
personally in the Ordinance Index to see if the names are already
there before they submit them for temple work."
A name by name check of the Ordinance Index will often indentify many
ordinances that have been completed that TempleReady will not catch.
A parent's search of the Ordinance Index will also sometimes identify
additional children of a family. This name by name search takes
longer, but there seems to be something in this name by name approach
that is harmony with the Lord's view of each of his children as
individuals.
