Am I missing something? I don't seem to find any way print
the Cascading Pedigree W / Index automatically. You can
build it one chart at a time, but then you don't have an index.
Any suggestions?

Dear Ltbcad02, at AOL.com

I presume that you are enquiring about PAF3, since these options are
more obvious in 2.31. After selecting Print, and then Pedigree Charts,
the following window appears. requesting more generations to be printed
than fit on one page (4/5/6) will cause cascading. The screen that
these options are in, is shown below.

Subject: [PAF] Family Associations

Hi all, I know this may be off topic, however I am getting more and more
frustrated! I work at two FH Centers, and see patrons come in a
download data from the IGI and Ancestral File, and then put it into
their home genealogy program, and then start proving the data, which is
good. However, later they start communicating with the contributors (if
they are lucky) or with other "cousins", and receive much the same data
from the cousin who downloaded the same data.

Very few patrons are involved with any sort of Family Association,
where there is a cooperative effort, that would reduce the redundancy
and duplication of effort, and increase the sharing of proven data.

Thus I am considering either a seminar talk, or writing up a handout
that would encourage patrons to form Family Associations.

What I am asking for, from you is:
1. Do you know of any book or publication that you would recommend, on
how to set upand run a family association? (I will check PERSI)

2. If you are in a Family Association, could you please send a copy of
your
'rules, guidelines', or what ever you call the document that outlines a
members responsibilities.

3. What do you feel are the advantages of your association, do you
sense any disadvantages? Are there problems and pitfall that could be
avoided?

4. Is there a financial structure to the Family association, if possible
can you disclose the yearly/monthly costs, and what
benefits/publications/research come from these costs?

5. Are all members of the family association family history hobbyist, or
do some members contribute other skills (or funds) to the association in
return for membership?
Any thoughts, and documentation helpful in this venture and especially
your comments would be greatly appreciated.

I not only plan to set up a family association, but also to share this
information with others.

If you would like to get a copy by e-mail, when I am done, or would like
to proof or contribute, e-mail me at nowlin@flash.net , and I will put
you on a list. I am planning to change ISP & e-mail provider to MCI
internet and possibly the new e-mail account from Ancestry.com so pleas
reply soon, or your reply will have to be to the "list". P.S. I do not
subscribe to "Elijah", so please reply to my e-mail.
Dick Nowlin until Aug. 15th, Nowlin@flash.net

Well, when the Ancestral File first came out in 1983, it included the
name of the Submitter as the Family Organization contributor. Most of the
FHC's that were started between 1983 and 1992 should have in their Fiche
drawers the Family Registry and Family Organization cards (now obsolete
since Ancestral File has replaced this).

I have come across at the public library, there's a book called
Encyclopedia of Associations. I have found several entries for genealogy
on surnames that have a association organizer that has a database. There
is no charge to look at these books. It is located in the reference
section (some librarians may have to get this for you).

They give you addresses to write to a person if you have a link to the
surname, (sometimes a E-mail is provided). These books are updated
yearly.

As for proving data, most give you one source where it's referenced (most
of the time it maybe the only record source), others give you a lot of
places to find the name in. Trouble is sometimes a misspelling occurs or
a date of of place, and a some take it on face value these records
without amending it. As long as you get other sources that back up the
claim and know that it has been proven, then you know you have the right
person.

But, one word of caution, there are many persons in the world that may
have the very same name (first, middle and last names) and rarely the
same spouse name, and it could be entirely be different persons, unless
the DOB is different. I have found cases like that.

For example, one ancestor I have married twice and had a large family
(both marriages). Another cousin found the same name for another
marriage. I told him no, it's another person with the same exact name and
date of birth (but different town), and in this instance was proven not a
link to the person who has the two marriages and could not have time to
have a marriage to the third in-between spouses and dates (unless he was
a bigamist, which was rare in this time period I have covered).

For what it worth to find, hope it helps.
Tom

Would everyone please ignore the spam and stop trying to remove it from
the list causing further reposts. It's not your mail doing it, It's the
list that needs to filter out another spam.

Thank you.
