Re getting only Pa. Penn etc.
If u still have it go back to 2.31 and use FRU or a pgm like Family
Records Utility.
with it you can change each way u have PA Pa Penn etc to just one set up
and then u can use that one and only way and get them all.

Steven Cannon updated FRU for PAF 3.0. It is called PAF Pal.
PAF Pal runs from DOS or Windows. You select the file to open by number or
letter--much easier than scrolling the list when you have many files. You
can print to screen, file or printer. Most of the options in FRU are here,
plus some others, to provide what PAF 3.0 has left out and some of the
features of Jack Chandler's NAMECLEAN program (Jack says he is not going to
write any PAF 3.0 utilities, which we are very sorry to hear.)
PAF Pal will print a list of individuals by "date changed" and by "date
sent to Ancestral File.
It has search & replace for single names and for places, change temple
codes, change dates, expand place abbreviations or abbreviate places. add
or remove USA. It will clear ID#s, AFNs, Titles, all LDS fields, and
'Submmitted' from LDS fields. It calculates Soundex codes. It displays data
statistics and files size.
The price is $18 which includes postage. Send to Steve at 1065 West 10210
South, South Jordan UT 84095. (StevenCannon@compuserve.com)

But there was a place for AFNs in PAF 2.31, in the ID field. If you
had placed the AFN there in 2.31 and not the notes and then converted to 3.0,
the AFNs would have been moved to the correct field in 3.0.
That is another way to get your AFNs into 3.0, go back to 2.31, put all
the AFNs in the ID field and convert your data again.
I did that when I first moved my data, I made sure that all the AFNs
that I knew were in the PAF 2.31 ID field before I converted. The AFNs that I
found later, I used the various GEDCOM methods that I mentioned before.
I found that no matter what you do, it is work to get the AFNs into
3.0. I have started using the AFNs as my ID of choice and not the RIN.
Good Luck.

Subject: [PAF] ged utilities
Someone, on some list or the other, sent me a URL for d/l a utility which
allows the user to add a line to EVERY individual in a gedcom so one can add:
0 NOTE This information submitted by Jeaux Blieux of Nuevo Larado.
1 CONT Jeaux's address is .....
I d/l it, and now I can't remember what it's called, so I can't find it
when I want to use it. Anyone know?
As you may be able to tell, it hasn't been a *good* couple of weeks for me?

Cheryl:
If you're looking for a URL Here is one I check every once in a while:
ftp://ftp.genealogy.org/pub/genealogy/PAF/pafutils/msdos/
This is Mike St. Clair's useful site that tracked most all of PAF 2.31
and earlier utilities. This is the most complete by far. I don't recall
if there were any PAF3.0 shareware utilities listed since I have visited
the site for awhile.
Hope this is what you were looking for.
Tom

Thanks, Tom.
Life is a hoot. I post this query here and went off to fix dinner.
After dinner, I checked another list and found a plea for the URL -- only
she remembered enough that I managed to find the program!
Check out: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gumby/ged.html
A small sampling of neat stuff, including (taaaaa-dah!) ADDSOUR.exe

You can also just type the AFNs in the ID field while in the Edit
screen. A pain also, but easier and with less potential for other
problems than to match merge the whole file.

However, the AFN is not then in the AFN field. Besides, I use the ID
field for other information and don't want to waste it with data that already
has its own field.

Steve Cannon has upgraded his Family Records Utility (FRU) to work on
PAF 3.0. The name now is PAF Pal. You can get it from him at:
Steve M. Cannon Software
1065 West 10210 South
South Jordan, Utah 84095
USA
The cost is $18.00 (US)
This program works on the PAF 3.0 database (not a GEDCOM file);
Automatically locates the PAF files; does a search and replace on full
names or parts of them; search and replace on dates; search and replace
LDS temple codes; SEARCH AND REPLACE ON ABBREVIATIONS OF USA states,
Candain provinces and Great Britain counties; automatically add or remove
USA or U.S.A., clears ID number fields, clears AFN fields (but it does
not allow data entry to that field); clear titles; display individual,
marriage and file statistics; SOUNDEX calculator; and prints several
lists.
