I have had a few errors with the digest. It should be fixed now. Thank you
all for being patient with my tampering to get it to work. You might see
an unusual amount of mails from me while I test this in the next few days.
This will not go on for long. I am learning as I do this so bear with me.

Another Staff Member couldn't get this one to work. She found a
paper which mentioned HP LazerJet II series and chose the HP LazerJet II
in PAF Printer Preferences and now it works for her.
For HP 890C
Choose HP LazerJet II or choose DeskJet for Both Printers. I did
this and got mine to work with the DeskJet setting where before I had to
choose LazerJet II.

One trick, I found on the HP890C is to use the deskjet 500 series
printers. This work fine on my brother's printer.
For the stylus, I used the Epson compatible series for another friend. It
works fine. IF any other printer don't work, try the Epson compatibles to
solve other brands (ususally works).

Well, that last certainly explains why most FHCs will never have this
installed!
And removed me from the list of potential buyers. :(

I have subscribed to your "digest", but it is far from being that !!!!!
A digest should contain one days worth of messages, resent to us digest
subscribers as ONE MESSAGE. Currently it appears that you are
re-sending every SINGLE message as DIGEST, that defeats the purpose of
Digest mode.
Humbly,

I have found that if you go to:
1. My computer
2. Printers
3. HP Deskjet 720C Series
4. Printer Properties
5. DOS
6. Character Set
Change the character set from the default to ISO6: ASCII.
This will cause the printer to work just fine. One major drawback is
that when you exit the DOS program you can't print in windows unless you
reboot. DOS will not let go
of the print driver.

Subject: Re: PAF: Our Listserv Group
Hello all,
I hesitatingly send this suggestion to <underline>all</underline> in
the PAF listserv because I feel that it needs to be said to
<underline>all</underline>. Feel free to stop reading and delete
anywhere along the line! Some of you have heard from me privately. I
communicate privately when I feel that my response only pertains to
that person and not the entire group. Private response has a BIG place
in a listserv group. I believe that there is much to be learned by all
of us regarding courtesy in the electronic communication arena,
especially by myself. If we learn to whittle our e-mail recipients
down we can broaden the "highway" our communications travel on. By
this I mean, there are TOO MANY times that different individuals in ALL
listserv groups, not just this one, respond to the entire group
something that should absolutely be sent privately, otherwise it
appears to be a "flaming" or a "spam slamming", when it was really
never intended to be. Do some quick math, subtract all but one
recipient from each response that does not really pertain to the whole
group...your answer will be:
a lot less e-mail, which = faster movement on the "electronic
highway".
Some simple courtesy checks:
1. Always check yourself first before responding, "to whom do I intend
to direct my response?", should be asked.
2. Before hitting "send", check the address in the "To:". Does it
correspond <underline>only</underline> with the person(s) I want to
communicate with? If not, change it with a simple "copy" and "paste".
3. Ask yourself, "Am I embarrassing the person who sent out a comment
that made me feel the urge to respond? If I am embarrassing this
person with knowledge of doing so, am I willing for others to embarrass
me publicly likewise?" (How many of us are there in this listserv
anyway?!)
4. Let's be patient with one another. I think we are all learning
anyway, aren't we? If we need to help each other out with sidelines
not pertaining to the use of PAF and associated programs, equipment,
etc., let's do it privately when we can, unless the subject seems to be
one of those things that perhaps there are many of us in the group who
need that particular instruction, direction, or response. (That is why
I got up the courage to send this one!)
5. "Am I biting the hand that feeds me?", is a VERY important question
to ask ourselves before airing the complaint to the entire group that
should be directed to poor Ed Rogers, who I am going to bet, is not
paid to maintain this listserv, but rather is doing it as a service to
all of us. I am sure he does not mind listening to our complaints,
requests, and suggestions, but I wonder if he is a bit like all of the
rest of us out here who hate to have our blunders, our "baby's first
steps", our trips, slips, and goofs aired internationally! You can
find his e-mail address at the bottom of the "Welcome to PAF..." e-mail
we each received at time of subscription when you need to communicate
directly to him.
PLEASE, before any of you get offended, angry, or feel to laugh at me,
I just want everyone to know that NO OFFENSE IS INTENDED in any shape
or form! I am only risking my safe corner in a pretty feeble attempt
to be helpful. I sincerely believe that most of the things I am
suggesting that we avoid doing has NOT been done with ill intent by
anyone in this group, but out of lack of understanding as to how a
listserv group works. If anyone was offended in spite of my plea that
you not take this communication as such, please respond to me
privately. My most sincere apologies for taking up so much of your
time with this lengthy e-mail. MAJOR APOLOGIES to all of you who
already know this e-mail protocol.

Apologies all the way around!!
I thought I was going to be able to slink back into my little corner in
this listserv group after baring myself naked before all of you....
Well, I can just think again!! Since I have only responded to selected few
in private replies, I have not seen my own e-mail since I had my husband
set me up with the Eudora e-mail application. I had absolutely NO idea
that I had, in essence "spammed" our group. The signature tag that my
husband uses in his business was still in the setup, unbeknownst to me. I
had not set up a signature tag yet because I change according to what is
appropriate with the person(s) I am communicating with.
My most sincere apologies are extended to all of you! It is bad enough
that you had to listen to my "soapbox" babblings, but to get an unwarranted
advertisement to boot!!...just too far over the line! Please, accept my
apologies at this point and I will NOW slink back into my little corner!
Apologetically yours,
Marilyn Howard

Subject: PAF: PAF NOTES
I upgraded from PAF 2.31 to PAF 3. plus 3.0m and I have
The Companion too. I added the data from my backup disks
and not by the gedcom method, (which I do not understand!)
I don't think I'm missing any records, but when I printed
an individuals sheet I found that my notes were entered all
wrong. I indented some of the sentences and now it doesn't
look right at all. I tried to straighten out the lines, but
it looked ok on the screen but still didn't print out right.
Can someone give me an idea of what to do to correct all
these notes?? Any help much appreciated.
